The Tamil Nadu Police nabbed a migrant worker from Jharkhand, on Tuesday, March 7th, for allegedly making and sharing a false video that claimed locals had beaten the migrant workers.

As per the Tamil Nadu Police, the accused, Manoj Yadav, made a fake video with the help of his friends, which purportedly showed that Tamil Nadu locals thrashed migrant workers in the state. Yadav and his friends are from Jharkhand.

After the video of the alleged attack on Bihari migrant labourers circulated on social media, the Tamil Nadu Police took timely action to investigate the alleged incidents. They also conducted reach-out programmes to the migrant labourers to allay their apprehension.

The Bihar and Tamil Nadu Police simultaneously started their investigation to find the origin of the rumours. The Bihar Police appealed to social media users for saving the link to the videos of such alleged attacks. At last, the Tamil Nadu Police successfully found out the origin of the rumours.

Earlier on Monday, March 6th, the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) C Sylendra Babu said that the situation was peaceful and the migrant workers had resumed their work. Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader K Annamalai was also booked on the same day on the charges of inciting violence and promoting enmity between groups.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also made an outreach to the migrant workers and assured them about their safety in the state. He also urged the people not to share any fake videos about purported attacks.

Notably, Tamil Nadu has a large chunk of migrant workers from West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand employed in various sectors, including construction.
