Xi reportedly told Zelenskyy that dialogue and negotiations are the only viable way out of the conflict. Xi told Zelenskyy that China always stands on the side of peace, and its core stance in the conflict is to facilitate peace between Russia and Ukraine.

While discussing the issue of the conflict, Xi told Zelenskyy that neither did China create the Ukraine crisis, nor is it a party to the crisis. Xi added that as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and a responsible major country, China would not sit idly by, nor would it add oil to the fire, still less exploit the situation for its self-interests.

The Chinese president stressed that the Ukraine conflict is evolving in complex ways with major global implications. He strongly objected to the use of nuclear weapons in the conflict. Xi told Zelenskyy all relevant parties must stay calm and exercise restraint, truly act in the interests of their future and that of humanity, and jointly manage the crisis that emerged from the conflict.

Xi also said that with rational thinking and voices now on the rise, it is important to seize the opportunity and build up favourable conditions for the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.

During his telephonic discussion with Zelenskyy, Xi told the Ukrainian leader that China will continue to facilitate talks for peace and make efforts for an early ceasefire to end hostilities and restore normalcy.

Xi informed Zelenskyy that China will send a special representative of the Chinese government on Eurasian affairs to visit Ukraine and other countries to conduct in-depth communication with all parties on the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.

Zelenskyy reportedly congratulated Xi on his re-election as the president of China and the general secretary of its ruling Communist Party of China (CPC). He also praised China for its remarkable achievements under Xi’s leadership and expressed confidence that China will continue to successfully address various challenges and move forward as a major global power.

The Ukrainian president also praised China for upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter in international affairs. He said that Beijing has a significant influence on the international and reiterated Ukraine’s commitment towards the “One China Policy”.

Zelenskyy expressed hope that China-Ukraine bilateral relations will develop in the future, and he thanked Xi for providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. He welcomed China’s important role in restoring peace and seeking a diplomatic solution to the crisis.
