Russia accused Ukraine of a โterroristโ drone attack targeting the Kremlin on the intervening night of Tuesday, May 2nd and Wednesday, May 3rd. However, the Kremlin press service informed that President Vladimir Putin was unharmed and the Russian defence neutralised the drones.
The Kremlinโs press service said in a statement: โTwo unmanned aerial vehicles targeted the Kremlin. Timely action by the military and special services involving radar systems enabled them to disable the devices. They crashed in the Kremlin grounds, scattering fragments without causing any casualties or damage.โ
โThe President has not suffered in this terrorist attack. His working schedule remains unchanged and follows its ordinary courseโ, the Kremlinโs press service said.
Kremlin press service alleged that Ukraine carried out this attack to disrupt the May 9th Victory Day celebration in Moscowโs Red Square, where Russia celebrates the Soviet Unionโs victory against Nazi Germany in the second world war, which is called the โGreat Patriotic Warโ in Russia.
โWe view these actions as a planned terrorist attack and an assassination attempt targeting the President, carried out ahead of Victory Day and the May 9 Parade, where foreign guests are expected to be present, among othersโ, the press service informed.
Russia also threatened to use countermeasures against Ukraine for the attack on Kremlin. โRussia reserves the right to take countermeasures wherever and whenever it deems appropriateโ, the press service informed.
On Wednesday, Kremlinโs spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told the press that Putin is working in Novo-Ogaryovo, outside Moscow, where he met Nizhny Novgorod Governor Gleb Nikitin. Earlier on Tuesday, Putin visited St Petersburg, where he had flagged off tram traffic in Mariupol using a video link.
