India’s historic achievement at the 95th Academy Awards reminded film enthusiasts of the Academy Award’s Indian connection.

India made history and found itself in the headline as it bagged two awards at the 95th Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, March 12th.

India’s historic achievement at the 95th Academy Awards, held at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, came when RRR’s song ‘Naatu Naatu’ and the short film The Elephant Whisperers got the most coveted laurels in the categories of ‘Best original song’ and ‘Best documentary short’ respectively.

India’s historic achievement at the 95th Academy Awards reminded film enthusiasts of the Academy Award’s Indian connection. In 1983, Bhanu Athaiya won the ‘Best costume design’ award for the film Gandhi. In 1992, legendary Indian film director Satyajit Ray won an Honorary Academy Award for his 1955 film Pather Panchali.

In 2009, Slumdog Millionaire, directed by the British filmmaker Danny Boyle, won several honours at the 81st Academy Awards. Legendary Indian Music directors AR Rahman and Gulzar won two awards for their much-applauded contribution to the film.

India’s historic achievement at the 95th Academy awards could make Indian film aficionados relish such a colossal feat while reminiscing about the Indian cinematic legacy at the Oscars.
