Smotrich’s colonial plan draws flak from resistance

Bezalel Smotrich's plan to occupy the West Bank has prompted condemnation from the left-wing resistance group PFLP.

Bezalel Smotrich's plan to annexe the West Bank and Gaza has been slammed by the Palestinian resistance, calling it colonial and criminal.

After Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced that the Zionist state will accept tenders for real estate construction in a highly controversial area, the Palestinian resistance has condemned his plan, calling the scheme “dangerous”.

The left-wing Palestinian resistance organisation, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), said Mr Smotrich’s plan reveals a “dangerous Judaisation project to take complete control of the West Bank and displace our people.”

“The dangerous Zionist Judaization plan announced by the fascist and racist Israeli Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, aims to impose complete and effective control over the occupied West Bank, displace and expel our people from their land, confiscate thousands of dunams, and introduce a million new settlers to the West Bank, as part of a rolling colonial settlement plan based on criminal Talmudic religious beliefs,” the PFLP said in a statement on Thursday, August 14th.

According to the PFLP, Mr Smotrich’s plan is a colonial plan to besiege the Palestinians living on their own land in the West Bank and then force them into an exodus.

“This colonial plan aims to besiege our people in enclaves surrounded by settlements and military sites on all sides, and to exert all forms of military, security, political, and economic pressure to force them to leave or accept the status quo after their homes and lands are seized,” the left-wing organisation said.

The PFLP said that Mr Smotrich’s plan will form an obstacle towards forming an independent Palestinian state.

“These steps also aim to obstruct any political solutions that lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state,” the PFLP alleged.

On Wednesday, August 13th, Mr Smotrich announced his intention to approve tenders to construct over 3,000 houses in the highly controversial E1 area settlement project, to connect Jerusalem and the existing Israeli occupation settlement of Maale Adumim.

Commenting on the matter, Mr Smotrich said, “After decades of international pressure and freezes, we are breaking conventions and connecting Maale Adumim to Jerusalem.”

Mr Smotrich’s plan also includes a resettlement of Gaza, which conforms to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to annexe the territory.

“The criminal Smotrich’s statements regarding resettlement in the Gaza Strip represent a direct extension of the comprehensive war of extermination waged by the occupation against our people,” the PFLP mentioned, condemning them.

“These statements clearly aim to uproot and forcibly displace them, as part of an integrated Zionist project targeting both the West Bank and Gaza, laying the final foundations for the liquidation of our national cause and the obliteration of our presence on our land,” the Marxist-Leninist organisation has claimed.

Alleging the US’s patronage behind the audacious move by Israel, the PFLP has held it and the “international community” responsible for these moves.

“The Front holds the US administration and the international community fully responsible for these crimes, as they are essential partners of the occupation and have given it the green light to continue these criminal policies,” the organisation alleged.

The PFLP has stressed the need for greater Palestinian agreement on the threats posed by Mr Smotrich’s annexation plans and called for a confrontation on all fronts.

“The Front calls for an immediate agreement on a comprehensive national strategy to confront these schemes and confront the occupation on all fronts,” the PFLP said.

“Time is precious, and the Zionist crimes in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, along with the Judaisation schemes, require turning the page on disagreements, prioritising national interests, and adopting a unified and comprehensive strategy to defend our people, our land, and our existence,” it has added.

Once again, the PFLP has relied on international support for its stance and called upon both Arab states and the free people to support the resistance.

“We call on the Arab states and the free people of the world to stand firmly with our people in confronting this criminal government and its settlement projects, which threaten to destroy the Palestinian cause and obliterate our people’s historical rights,” it appealed.

“Actual solidarity has become an urgent necessity to protect our land and restore our national rights,” the organisation said in conclusion, underscoring the need for unity.

Meanwhile, along with Itamar Ben-Gvir, the controversial far-right rabble-rouser, Mr Smotrich’s hate-mongering has drawn global ire, prompting Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway and the UK to sanction them. Lately, the Netherlands and Slovenia have also sanctioned the duo.

Mr Smotrich’s plan on Gaza and the West Bank came at a time when the Israeli cabinet had given a go-ahead to its forces to occupy the entire Gaza Strip, and Mr Netanyahu’s plan to create a “Greater Israel”.
