Israel kills Palestinian journalists with calculated precision in Gaza. The latest attack struck Al-Shifa Hospital’s courtyard on August 10th, 2025. Six media workers died when Israeli forces bombed an Al-Jazeera journalists’ tent. The victims included Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammed Quraiqa, correspondents who had documented Gaza’s destruction for 673 days.
The strike represents the systematic elimination of witnesses. Palestinian resistance organisations universally condemned the attack as a war crime designed to silence the truth. The death toll now stands at 238 journalists killed since October 2023āfour times the number murdered during six years of World War Two.

Israel kills Palestinian journalists to conceal planned escalation
The timing of this attack raises disturbing questions about Israeli intentions. Hamas described the brutal crime as exceeding “all boundaries of fascism and criminality”. The organisation warned that assassinating journalists serves as a prelude to a “major crime the occupation plans to commit in Gaza City”.
Islamic resistance Hamas highlighted that both Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammed Quraiqa had received “direct, repeated threats” from Israeli forces beforehand. The group argued that Israel seeks to eliminate Gaza’s “media voice to carry out massacres far from the world’s eyes”. This calculated approach suggests the attack formed part of a broader strategy to control information flow.
The Islamic Jihad Movement described the deliberate targeting as a “heinous war crime” committed by the “most brutal and criminal army in the world”. The organisation warned that the attack confirms Israel is “preparing the stage for its upcoming crimes” by eliminating journalists who expose them.
The left-wing Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) stated that the attack confirms “truth is a direct enemy of the occupation”. The PFLP views the assassination as a “dangerous indicator of the occupation’s intention to commit the most heinous crimes in Gaza” after eliminating media coverage.
The organisation highlighted Israel’s hypocrisy in claiming to allow foreign press into Gaza while its “blood-soaked hands” execute local press crews whose only weapon was a “microphone and a camera”. The PFLP declared that international silence constitutes a “partnership in the crime”.
When Israel kills Palestinian journalists, witnesses to genocide disappear
The victims represented Gaza’s most dedicated chroniclers of suffering. Ibrahim Daher worked as a photojournalist, capturing images that contradicted Israeli narratives. Moamen Aliwa documented daily life under siege. Mohammed Nofal assisted photographers in their dangerous work. Mohammad Al-Khalidi worked with the Sahat platform before becoming the sixth victim.
Anas Al-Sharif embodied journalistic courage under fire. Born in Al-Majdal on December 2nd, 1996, he grew up in Jabalia camp. His coverage spanned Gaza’s darkest moments, from the Tabeen School massacre that killed 93 people to the Jabalia invasion that left 170 dead or missing.
The Popular Resistance Committees eulogised Al-Sharif as an “icon of Palestine” whose work exposed the “zionist holocaust”. The organisation stated that his assassination exposes Benjamin Netanyahu’s propaganda lies and proves Israel “fears the word, the image, the camera, and the pen”.
When Israeli forces officially placed Al-Sharif on their target list, he responded defiantly: “Silence or death: this is what the occupation wants from me and from Gaza’s journalists. The occupation army has repeatedly tried to silence us through death and fire, whether by targeting my home and killing my father or through repeated attacks against us.”
Al-Sharif explained his mission with characteristic clarity: “I am doing my job transparently, conveying the suffering of my people in northern Gaza, which is what troubles the occupation and its army. They do not want the truth to be revealed.”
This is my will and my final message. If these words reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice. First, peace be upon you and Allahās mercy and blessings.

International accountability remains elusive as Israel kills Palestinian journalists
The Palestinian Journalists Protection Centre condemned the “heinous crime”, noting that the assassination came after months of Israeli incitement against Al-Jazeera correspondents. The organisation called for an “independent and transparent international investigation” into the continuous targeting of journalists in Gaza.
Fatah al-Intifada mourned the “martyrs of truth”, stating that targeting journalists represents a “blatant violation of human rights and freedom of the press”. The movement asserted that such attacks aim to “blind the world to the crimes” and assassinate witnesses documenting the “genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza”.
The Government Media Office issued its strongest condemnation on August 11th, 2025. The statement held Israel, the American administration, and participating countries including Britain, Germany and France “fully responsible for committing these heinous and brutal crimes”.
The office called on the International Federation of Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists and global media organisations to condemn these systematic crimes. It demanded that the international community prosecute Israeli officials in international courts and exert “serious and effective pressure to stop the crime of genocide”.
The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement strongly condemned the “brutal assassination” near Al-Shifa Medical Complex. The organisation joined other factions in describing the attack as part of Israel’s broader campaign against press freedom.
Yet international responses remain inadequate while Israel continues killing Palestinian journalists with impunity. The systematic targeting represents one of history’s deadliest periods for media workers. The 238 journalists killed in Gaza exceed casualty figures from decades of other conflicts combined.
The victims’ colleagues vowed to continue their work despite the dangers. Their commitment reflects journalism’s essential role in documenting war crimes and bearing witness to suffering. As Al-Sharif declared before his death: “The coverage continues.”
Israel’s campaign against Palestinian media workers constitutes a deliberate strategy to control narratives while committing atrocities beyond international scrutiny. The world’s failure to protect these journalists enables further crimes against those who dare document them.
