Palestinian resistance hails Spain’s move to halt weapons sales to Israel, Yemen’s naval blockade

Apart from applauding Spain's move to halt weapons sales to Israel, the Palestinian resistance also hailed Yemen's naval blockade on the Haifa Port.

Palestinian resistance has welcomed Spain’s move to halt weapons sales to Israel. On Tuesday, May 20th, the Spanish Parliament voted by a majority to approve legislation to halt all weapons sales to Israel, a few days after left-wing  Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that “Spain will not do business with a genocidal state.”

The move is non-binding on the Spanish state but Mr Sanchez’s government is showcasing it as a significant move.

Spain’s move to halt weapons sales to Israel comes at a time when even the Keir Starmer-led far-right Labour Party’s government in Britain has suspended trade talks with Tel Aviv over the Gaza aggression.

Mr Sanchez took part in the recently concluded Arab League Summit in Baghdad.

Welcoming Spain’s move to halt weapons sales to Israel, the left-wing Palestinian resistance organisation Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) has called for the necessary steps to be completed for its final ratification and practical implementation.

“This decision represents a significant political development that reflects growing global awareness and increasing support for the rights of the Palestinian people within European institutions. This is driven by pressure from the Spanish public and the progressive positions of the Spanish government, and a rejection of military relations with an entity that commits genocide against civilians, especially children,” the PFLP said in its statement on Tuesday.

The PFLP has considered Spain’s step an important political development that should serve as a model for global parliaments.

“This decision should serve as a model for other parliaments around the world, especially those in the European Union, to emulate in order to halt their support for the Zionist killing machine and adhere to international humanitarian law,” the PFLP’s statement on Spain’s move to halt weapons sales to Israel said.

“The Front calls on all Western governments and parliaments to stop supplying weapons to the Zionist entity, impose sanctions on it, and isolate it as a rogue and outcast entity that commits genocide, paving the way for holding it accountable internationally for the crimes committed against our people, especially children,” the organisation further said.

Earlier, on Monday, the PFLP also welcomed the Yemeni Armed Forces’ move to impose a naval blockade on Haifa Port in Israel.

After imposing a severe air blockade on Israel and launching several attacks targeting the Ben Gurion Airport, Yemeni Armed Forces have claimed they have successfully imposed a naval blockade on Israel.

In its statement, the PFLP, one of the important constituent of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said it “commends the courageous decision of the Yemeni Armed Forces to impose a naval embargo on the port of Haifa, in response to the Zionist enemy’s escalation of its brutal aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip, and because this port constitutes a vital pillar of the Zionist economy.”

Hailing the Yemeni move, the PFLP said, “This qualitative step represents an important development in the deterrence equations established by the Yemeni Armed Forces, laying the foundations for a new phase of Yemeni resistance action against the Zionist entity.”

“This bold decision comes in the context of a series of successes Yemen has accumulated in confronting the entity, most notably the imposition of an air embargo and forcing major international airlines to suspend their flights to the occupying state, in addition to the continued qualitative strikes deep inside the entity,” the PFLP added.

Exhibiting solidarity with Yemen, which is the lone Arab nation that has remained steadfast in its vocal support for Gaza and has successfully imposed a naval blockade across Red Sea near the Gulf of Aden, the PFLP “affirms that these courageous Yemeni steps express the unity of the battle and destiny, and the position of the Yemeni people, leadership and army, in standing by our Palestinian people and their valiant resistance.”

“This advanced Yemeni action constitutes real and increasing pressure on the occupying entity, placing it before a strategic crisis that is worsening in its security and economic dimensions, particularly in the areas of maritime and air transport,” the Marxist-Leninist organisation concluded.
